On Good Friday, I spent most of my afternoon going around Mandeville, enjoying a day off, full of sunlight and blue skies. My first stop was at the dog park with Gizmo, where he had the chance to run and play – in the mud. It had been raining most of the week, so there were a few spots around the trees where there were puddles and mud. He avoided them at first, but after a few minutes of playing with the other dogs, all thoughts of getting wet and muddy were forgotten. After taking Gizmo home and giving him a well-needed bath, I headed back out to grab lunch and putter around old Mandeville to get some pictures. The first place I found was a small patch of swamp tucked away in a residential neighborhood. One of my favorite places in Old Mandeville is the Dew Drop Inn, the […]
Earlier this month, I spent the weekend working at CoastCon 39, a convention in Biloxi, Mississippi. I’ve been doing social media for this convention for the past two years, as well as being an elected Member-At-Large for CoastCon, Inc.’s corporate committee for the past two years as well. I love getting pictures at conventions in general, since there’s usually some really cool things to see and look at. Not only that, the people-watching is really fun. So I figured it was a good time to try my hand at portrait photography and depth-of-field shots. I think as I go to conventions this year I’m going to work on my DOF and portrait pictures more. I really enjoyed taking these.
I’m re-watching the classic series The Prisoner today, and it is reminding me of my trip to Portmeirion with Doug in 2007. Portmeirion is one of the most beautiful, calm, and fun places I’ve ever been to. Not only that, I got to geek out over the fact that we were staying IN The Village! I’m hoping we get to go back one day.
There are days like today where you just HAVE to be outside. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, the breeze is perfect, it’s not too hot or too cold…you just need to be out and about. I had some errands to run this morning before meeting my mom for lunch at The Scotts Coffee Bar, so I decided to spend a little time taking pictures and reminiscing a bit at one of my favorite places, the Mandeville lakefront. It also gave me a chance to play with photography using nothing but my iPhone. I’ve become rather enamored of using my iPhone as a camera – especially with great apps like Vintique for back-end editing.
I adore Ren Faires. I love pulling out all of my garb and getting dressed up. I love getting to the festival site early and watching the staff and cast put on the opening show. I love walking around on a cool, crisp day, enjoying the sun on my face while I peruse stalls of jewelry, clothing and accessories, and gadgets and toys. I love sitting on a bench, watching the assorted performers. I love stopping under a tree and eating faire food – everything from a Scotch Egg, to gyros, to chicken skewered on a stick and roasted. I love seeing my friends out and about with me. However, I do not love when the sun is setting and I am making my way back to my car, hat in hand, ready to make the trip back home and to real life. I am sad to unbuckle my belt […]
