What is it about summertime that makes me want to change my style? Perhaps it has something to do with wanting to wear less clothes – although realistically, it’s so dang hot down here that even wearing nothing is still too much. Either way, when the heat hits, I just want to change up my entire closet. This year, I’ve been eyeing more minimalist styles, solid colors, and simple prints such as polka dots and stripes. While poking around online, I came across a new plus-sized clothing company, Ori, and their Signature French Terry Wrap Dress.
Ori is a clothing company that came to life in early 2019 focusing on making high quality, comfortable, contemporary clothes in sizes 10-32 that people feel great in day in and day out.
From their website:
Our mission is to make beautiful clothing that empowers you – at any size – to look and feel your very best, every single day.
Even though my style for the past few years has been more retro-inspired, I’ve always been a fan of the basics. A good dress that can be worn all year long, can be dressed up or dressed down, is one of my favorite things. After checking out some of the ways that people had styled the French Terry Wrap Dress, I knew it was definitely something I wanted in my closet. It looked amazingly comfortable and it would look cute with tons of stuff – jean jackets, sandals, sneakers, flats, tights, everything! The awesome reviews of the dress on their website helped my decision to buy, too. 🙂
Y’all, those reviews were not wrong. This dress is – simply put – amazeballs.
The dress has a scoopneck, 3/4 sleeves, and a completely detachable tie belt. The dress hits at the knee in the front, and has a lower hemline in the back. The split sides on the hem and the neckline is lined with printed accent tape. Based on the size chart on the site, I ordered the size 3, which is a standard 22/24, and it fits exactly like I wanted. I could have possibly sized down, but I wanted a slightly looser fit that could be cinched with the belt. I ordered the “biking red” colorway, which is a beautiful burgundy color.
I was worried that the french terry cotton fabric would be too hot, but not at all! It’s very lightweight and comfortable even in the Louisiana heat, and I feel like it would be cozy in the cooler months with leggings and a jacket. I wore it out to a movie date with my mom, and I was perfectly comfortable the entire time. I have a very distinct feeling that this is going to be a well-worn item in my closet for a long time!
Ori’s current launch collection – the dress, two tees, and an embroidered sweatshirt made from the same french terry as the dress – are based off of a survey that received over 8000 responses (whoa!) about the styles that plus-sized people wanted to see in today’s fashion world. I really do love how they focus on what people really look for in style and construction! And finally, they also offer Afterpay, where you can pay for your purchase over time, so it makes their pieces available to a LOT more people.
I’m not ready to go full KonMari on my closet and just have a capsule wardrobe, but having great basics in a wide range of sizes like the pieces that Ori offers is always a great addition.
