A Tropical Winter (Trashy Diva Tropical Nights L’Amour)

Hey everyone! It’s been a rough few months. A lot of things have been happening in my personal life that has kept me from blogging (more on that in a future post). But I’m ready for 2019 to be the year I really focus on my creative endeavors, and blogging is going to be one of them! I’ve really been ignoring writing for a long time, and I really need to get back into it. It’s a great outlet, and I feel accomplished when something is completed.

I feel like this winter has been a really funky one here in Louisiana. Over the holidays, it was very grey and dreary, and I feel like we’ve had a lot of rain and generally funky weather (not as bad as up north – I can’t even comprehend that level of cold). So when Trashy Diva released their latest print, Tropical Nights, I thought it was a nice pop of color and light.

One of the things that excited me the most about this collection was the return of the Dorothy dress! The Dorothy was my very first Trashy Diva style and was a great “beginner” dress into my foray into vintage-style fashion. Sadly, a lot of other people felt the exact same way and that style was GONE within a few hours! So my next choice was their new style, the Violet dress. I thought the flutter sleeves and the ruffled skirt would be a beautiful mix of their Camilla and Bonita styles – but alas, it was just too much on me. I exchanged it for their classic style, the L’Amour dress – and it was truly L’Amour at first try-on (hurr hurr LOL).

I have the L’Amour in about five different prints now, and it is truly a dress that can do no wrong. Its circle skirt is swoopy and flirty and so classic. The bust is accented with a drawstring, which you can adjust to your liking. The waist is fitted, but has smocked stretch panels on the side, so it’s very forgiving if you’re just a little too full from lunch or dinner. Fair warning – this is a cleavage-y dress for those with fuller busts, but I typically wear a cami underneath and throw a cardigan on top to make it more office-friendly. It’s made from a very lightweight rayon which is great for Louisiana summers.

The print itself is so good – a deep red background with black, white, yellow, and turquoise accents. It’s apparently inspired by a 1930s loungewear print, but I think it’s going to work so well across all seasons! I am normally not a tropical print person, but the colors on this are so good I found myself falling in love with it.

I also picked up this gorgeous turquoise coral necklace. One of the things I want to do this year is play with more bold accessories. This color matches the blue in the dress perfectly! I cannot wait to wear this outfit to my brother-in-law’s rehearsal dinner this Friday night – and all summer long.

Now if only the weather would start cooperating…I guess I shouldn’t ask for it to warm up too soon, huh?
