Love thyself – 25 days of dresses.

If you would have told me 15 years ago that I would have had over 10 dresses in my closet by the time I was 40, I would have laughed at you. I would have said that nothing could ever part me from my bootcut jeans and tees. Hell, even back in 2007, I would have chuckled and said, “Nah.”

I currently have 11 dresses in my closet. Actually, I have 12 dresses, but I’m wearing one today to my friend Katie’s birthday party/crawfish boil/BBQ. (Sidenote: I love spring in Louisiana because I get to eat CRAWFISH. If you haven’t been to a crawfish boil, you are missing something in your life and I feel sad for you.)

I can’t put my finger on when I went from NO DRESSES to ALL THE DRESSES. Maybe it was when I discovered shapewear with shorts. I used to avoid dresses because my thighs would rub together and leave me with chafing that would kill me for days – but the first time I wore a pair of Spanx, I found out that I can wear skirts and dresses without concern. Then I discovered Elomi’s Curve thigh shaper while I worked at Bra Genie and that was it.

One of my favorite things about wearing dresses is that you instantly look and feel pulled together. Last week I went to the movies with Doug, and I wore my “comfy dress” with a jean jacket and sandals. I bought this dress at Buffalo Exchange about four years ago, and it is my default travel/hanging out dress. Heck, I’m wearing it to the party today.

This is where the “Love Thyself” part comes in. Since I’ve been feeling particularly frumpy and blah, I need to step up taking care of myself, including my appearance. This entire weekend I’ve sat at home wearing a gray tee and leggings, or a tee and jeans. I’m issuing a challenge to myself – to try and wear a dress every day for the next 25 days. I’m going to try and boost my mood by making myself look nice.

I created a new board on Pinterest with most of my dresses, and some new ones I’d like to snap up this summer. Go check it out and let me know which ones you like!
