I know, I know. I have no willpower. But when I saw this dress, I knew I could not wait. I knew it was going to sell out and if I didn’t jump on the sale RIGHT THEN I was going to miss out on this dress, and that would be UNACCEPTABLE. Because it is green and black and velvet and everything I ever wanted in my closet.
The Carmelita dress, from the Micheline Pitt x Unique Vintage collaboration, originally came out last year with Micheline’s first collab with Unique Vintage. The original version was just as beautiful – made from a bright kelly green chiffon over a satin lining, with black satin accents and a matching belt. I bought that one when it came out, too. However, the original dress did not come without its issues. I wore that dress to two events last year – a party at CONtraflow and Doug’s company Christmas party – and halfway through the night at the Christmas party, I looked down and noticed the chiffon fabric shredded at the seams right over my boobs. Luckily, the lining held up well, and we were in a dark bar. However, I was more than a little upset, and called Unique Vintage to tell them what had happened. Sadly, by that time the dress was sold out in my size, so they gave me a store credit for the cost of the dress, which was MORE than fair on their end. I did take the dress to my seamstress, and she fixed it up, but I’m a little hesitant to wear it now. And from multiple reviews in a few groups on Facebook, I’m not the only person this happened to.
However, UV made up for the flubs of the first dress with the re-release of this one.
The new Carmelita now comes in a heavier weight crepe material, and instead of the black trim and belt being satin, they are now a soft plush velvet. Other than that, the dress design is the same – layered flutter sleeves you can wear on or off the shoulder, a sweetheart neckline with a squared off back, elasticated sides, and a beautiful flowy skirt. Also, just like all of Micheline’s swing dress designs, this dress has pockets deep enough to carry a large phone.
My mom and I made reservations at a local fancy dinner place, Ox Lot 9 in Covington, which is located on the first floor of the Southern Hotel. So, before dinner last night, we stopped at the pool area to snap some quick pictures. Thanks, mom, for being my blog photographer! 😀
Y’all, I seriously CANNOT EVEN with this dress. I feel like a silver screen femme fatale, and this dress never fails to elicit compliments. I paired it with one of my hair flowers from Chatterblossom, and a new pair of Cobb Hill Aubreys that I got on Poshmark. The new crepe fabric is still light enough to be comfortable in summers, even though the dress is still lined, and it flows like a dream. The color of the dress is what really made me break my spending ban, though – I’ve had a weakness for hunter green since I was a teenager. Hunter green and black is my favorite color combo of all time (yes, I am 100% aware that Loki wears this, shush). I cannot wait to wear this to all the holiday parties this year!
As always, I’m pleased by the styles that Micheline makes. You can see how she focuses on the details that can really make a piece stand out. She’s rapidly becoming my favorite designer and I’m turning into quite a fangirl of hers. The Unique Vintage x Micheline Pitt collaboration went like hotcakes last year, so don’t miss out – head over to the site to see what’s available!
